The product is a 4 amplifier array module which incorporates 980nm un-cooled mini-DIL pumps, control firmware for APC and a PLC chip which in this case has 4 individually controlled dual-stage Erbium-doped waveguide amplifiers, with mid-stage isolation, pump/signal WDMs, power monitors and pump stripping filters on chip. Each dual stage amplifier is powered by a single pump laser with an on-chip splitter to for routing to each stage. There are more than 40 optical elements integrated on the chip.
The GEM-2410 is suited for applications which require multiple amplifiers at a network node. Inplane's Highly Integrated Photonics (HIP) approach provides both a small robust product with a lower cost per amplifier due to reduced packaging and integration.
